The Pursuit of Happiness

Unveiling the Quest for True Fulfillment

Are you happy?

What are some of the happiest moments of your life? The birth of your child? When you found the love of your life? When you graduated? When you got that big promotion? How long did that feeling last? A year? A month? A week? A day? An hour? What if there was a way to consistently feel those feelings?

When we search for the definition of happiness, we find that happiness is a subjective and multifaceted emotional state.  Often happiness is characterized by feelings of joy, contentment, satisfaction, and overall well-being. It's a positive and pleasant experience that varies from person to person. Steaming from various sources, including relationships, achievements, experiences, and personal fulfillment. Happiness isn't solely about constant euphoria but encompasses an overall sense of peace, fulfillment, and resilience amongst life's ups and downs. Happiness involves finding meaning, embracing positive emotions, and maintaining a sense of balance and satisfaction in life, Emotionally, Mentally, Physically and Spiritually. Ultimately, happiness is a deeply personal and evolving concept that reflects an individual's unique values, goals, and experiences.

Nature of Happiness

In an effort to understand my own struggles with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder I have researched years to find "what is happiness?" How do we achieve it, even when life is seemingly not going according to our plans? How do I hack my body in order to tell my brain that I am ok, when I'm not ok? Or when life is falling apart around me?

I have discovered the secrets to hacking my own brain and I want to share them with you! These practices have changed my life and while I still have feelings of inadequacy and sadness, I can quickly change my frame of mind by biohacking my brain I am able to live in a beautiful state.

Science of Happiness

The brain is a complex organ where numerous biochemical reactions occur instantly to regulate various functions and processes. We do not need to understand how it works to use it, it works all on its own. This can be a bit scary if we have trained our brain to constantly be in a state of suffering. For most of us, being in a state of suffering isn’t something we seek out. This is something that has crept into our brains and we have done this subconsciously, and are completely unaware of this toxic habit.

You may read this and think, “Oh that could never be me?” Or even, “I am happy.” Let’s examine that and reflect on our self talk? How do you talk to yourself? Are you speaking life positivity into your heart, head, mind, body and soul? Or do you often look in the mirror and see the wrinkles, or the large nose, or floppy ears and criticize your own body? How do you see yourself? Do you look for the negatives? Are you looking at situations and thinking, “I am so dumb.” or  “Why did I do/say that?” If it’s the ladder. I’m sorry -  you have consciously or unconsciously trained your subconscious to quickly create pathways of suffering. Not happiness. Let’s break them, and rebuild new patterns and bring our subconscious to meet our conscious mind.

First, let’s quickly look a bit deeper and learn the basics, so we can focus on the why behind the how we need to experience happiness. As I said earlier, your brain operates independently, on its own. For example, we do not need to actively tell our heart to pump blood or our lungs to take a breath. Yet they are doing those things now. Most of us don’t understand how we are able to move our fingers, but we are still able to move them. I want to impart on you some of the knowledge I have learned so that you are able to help create new neural pathways and have the ability to quickly activate a happy frame of mind when things aren’t going your way. In order to do that we need to look a bit deeper into the how the brain works.

Our brains and bodies have neurotransmitters and hormones which help us regulate our moods and our reactions. These are significant in regulating mood, cognition, behavior, and various physiological processes. In order to biohack our brains we need to quickly find pathways to hack our behavior to effect our moods and our physiological process.

Minor in the Major

There are more than 100 known neurotransmitters and hormones in the human brain and nervous system. We only need to focus on a few to have an immediate drastic effect on our happiness. These major neurotransmitters and hormones are serotonin, dopamine, acetylcholine, GABA, glutamate, and norepinephrine & cortisol These are significant in regulating mood, cognition, behavior, and various physiological processes.

Understanding Happiness:

Starts with your thoughts

Have you ever thought about how your brain works? How does this 3lb organ control everything in your body? Your brain is like a supercomputer for your body, controlling everything you do and experience. It's responsible for thinking, feeling, remembering, moving, and even breathing without you having to consciously think about it. WOW! It's incredible, isn't it? Our brains processes information from our senses, makes decisions, stores memories, and coordinates all your body's functions. Think of it as the control center that keeps everything running smoothly, from your thoughts and emotions to your movements and vital functions.
